The lyrics of the song represented the narrative we decided to follow.
The song is about a love turning sour, and wearing away, hint the title “skinny love”, as if the love is going skinny.
We looked at the lyrics to see what ideas we could come up with and if we could relate and ideas to the lyrics, once again using Andrew Goodwin’s theory of linking together visuals and lyrics.
Come on skinny love, just last the year
Pour a little salt, we were never here
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer
I tell my love to wreck it all
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Right at the moment this order's tall
And I told you to be patient
And I told you to be fine
And I told you to be balanced
And I told you to be kind
And in the morning, I'll be with you
But it will be a different kind
'Cause I'll be holding all the tickets
And you'll be owning all the fines

Come on skinny love, what happened here?
Suckle on the hope in light brassiere
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Sullen load is full, so slow on the split
And I told you to be patient
And I told you to be fine
And I told you to be balanced
And I told you to be kind
And now all your love is wasted
Then who the hell was I?
'Cause now I'm breaking at the britches
And at the end of all your lines
Who will love you?
Who will fight?
Who will fall far behind?
Come on skinny love
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
We decided to go quite controversial with the narrative and have the story line about drugs and an abusive relationship.
The story will start off with a couple who seem happy in their relationship
(using flashback home video style shots to show happy times during the relationship)
Until the boy turns to drugs and she catches him taking them
(we will use a deep very meaningful shot to do this)
After this she begins to shout at him, because of the drugs he shouts at her and pushes her
The song unfolds showing flashbacks of happy times in the relationship and artist shots until near the end of the song she walks into the bedroom as he is passed out on the bed. She throws the drugs at him and leaves him.
Realising that sometimes you have to leave who you love (even if they are bad) in order to actually have the good.

We wanted a strong narrative like this in order to promote the artist as a strong independent female.
