Advantages and Disadvantages of the New Media Technologies that we used
Digital Camera
advantages
Easy to take to locations as it was small and compact with a carry case. This was good for when we had to take it to the beach.
Easy to manoeuvre as it was small and lightweight so we could get into awkward places with it. This was good for when we were filming in the bathroom as it was a really small location and there were four people in it at once.
As it had a flip out screen it was easier for us to film the homemade video bits as we could see what we were doing.
It automatically corrected the light for us; this made it easier when we wanted to film the dark bits in black white, as we could clearly see them on the screen.
disadvanatges
It wasn’t sturdy on its own as it was so light, this was shown when we were on the beach and the wind was high which made it fall over a few times, covering it in sand.
the internet
advantages
information was at the click of a button, so was easy and quick to get during the research process.
we used it for posting questions in which random members of the public could answer, so we got a wide aray of research.
we could get a lot of our research for free online, on websites like youtube.
with the invention of social networking sites like facebook we could set up a private group in which the member of the group could talk, discuss ideas and organise times to film and meet up.
we used blogs on the internet to post all our work so people could see the processes (research, planning, making and evaluation) clearly.
disadvantages
when we asked questions and set up surveys it was questionable to whether people would actually reply, this was a risk we were willing to take during the audience feedback and evaluation stage.
digital editing
advantages
as we were making a music video we could edit sound and visuals together which made it easier for us when we needed to match up the lip syncing.
all our effects where in one place so we could experiment with them always knowing that we could undo them if we didnt like it.
it is good for independant film makers on a small budget as it is cheap to use and can be put onto a dvd in order for other people to watch.
photoshop was a great advantage for our ancillary products (advert and digipack) because it was easy to use and we could edit her skintones to a colour we wanted.
disadvantages
some people would say that we were deskilled because we used non linear editing.
